Chapter Events

Ongoing Chapter Events:

We encourage our members to be a part and get involved. There are always leadership positions available as well as member activities. We can achieve more when our members attend and get excited about our mission.

Fundraising:

This organization is a self-supporting social venture that seeks to fund high-impact literacy projects in the United States and around the world by running book drives on college campuses. They help support non-profit literacy programs such as Books for Africa, Worldfund, the National Center for Families Learning, and Room to Read. As part of Better World Book’s commitment to environmental sustainability, they never, ever throw away a book. Any book they cannot find a proper home for is recycled.

Our chapter receives $1.00 for each book that meets the criteria for a “qualifying book.” A qualifying book can be any college textbook with a publication date no older than 10 years. This project is already in place at our campus College Store. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to place their no-value books in the large green and white “Book Drive” box located outside the campus College Store after each buy-back period. Phi Theta Kappa members will box the books and label them for shipment at the end of each semester. Funds raised through this initiative support the chapter’s ‘sponsorship’ program for prospective new members who may struggle financially to pay their one-time membership dues. Relay For Life

We volunteer with the Relay for Life at Jackson High School. Each year, we set up a decorated theme tent, sell our items and participate in the walk. Members are encouraged to obtain monetary pledges from their friends and family for the cause. 100% of the proceeds gathered during this event go to the American Cancer Society.

What started as an International Service Program in 2002 has resulted in Phi Theta Kappa chapters and members raising more than $3.7 million through Relay For Life events for the American Cancer Society.

Campus Activities

  • Welcome Back to students Graduation marshalls
  • Graduation ceremony held in the spring and fall for those students that have worked so hard to earn their degrees. Tasks such as handing out programs at the door, assisting graduates in the waiting room with gowns and etc., and sometimes we fill in as flag bearers when needed.
  • Beta Gamma Epsilon sets up a table for each year’s Spring Fling, selling Phi Theta Kappa items as well as baked goods and snacks. This is a fun way to get involved in activities at your college!

C4

Phi Theta Kappa believes strongly in the C4 mission. Beta Gamma Epsilon members have pledged to complete and encourage all students to do the same. The struggles of going to college while holding down a job, caring for a family, and dealing with financial issues are familiar to all of us. We want to let other students know that Stark State College has a very helpful support system in place, and we can help you get where you need to be.
